VORTEX PATENT WET CAST AUTOMATION SYSTEM FOR MANUFACTURE OF ARTIFICIAL STONE: the wet cast “inverted mould”

The patented wet cast “inverted mould” system (Photograph 1) successfully reproduces high quality three dimensional surface finishing on precast concrete cladding units.

The system consists of patterned mould linings made from silicone rubber or polyurethane resin permanently mounted on a steel supporting plate with removable non-stick plastic ‘grid’ frame to form product sides (Photograph 2, 3).

The rubber mould lining reproduces the selected ‘natural’ product finish which can be stone, wood, bamboo, etc. Concrete mix is poured over the “inverted mould” assembly with the final product being obtained on completion of the curing process.

The combination of employing plastic grid frame and rubber moulds with permanent steel plate support eliminates the common problems that were experienced with other systems that are used to produce three dimensional finished concrete products. Such problems are the loss of

elasticity, splitting, shrinkage, and permanent deformation that can occur as a result of using rubber moulds only particularly during the manual.

The rigidly designed plastic grid frame ensures excellent dimensional accuracy of the finished product resulting in the ease of fixing that is not achievable by products that are produced in rubber moulds alone.

In addition the back surface of the finished product that is in contact with the wall is perfectly flat as a result of levelling the concrete over the top of the plastic grid during the mix filling activity.

The Vortex Hydra patented mould system also offers long life resistance and durability of the moulding system, properties that result in considerable cost savings being made by the customer who no longer has to replace worn rubber moulds as often.
